Ontario’s provincial government has passed Bill 124, which empowers the Ford Conservatives to override collective bargaining and impose settlements that lock front line workers into wages that cannot keep up with inflation.
This assault on hard working people cannot be allowed to stand unchallenged. CUPE Ontario will work with other unions to build resistance against cuts in communities across the province.
CUPE Ontario has recently been made aware of several proposed by-law amendments that would fundamentally change OMERS, weakening the voices of workers and their unions.

CUPE Local 12 attended the CUPE Ontario Regional Leadership Fightback Meeting in July. The goal of the meeting was to create a regional planning strategy to build the resistance to the Ford Government. The Chatham Kent Labour Council, along with the Unifor Labour Cabinet and many other Unions and community activists will be doing a rally in front of Rick Nicholls office on Friday, June 7th from noon till 1:00 PM.
We want to show our community that they have our support in fighting the Ford agenda which affects each and every one of us. Cuts to Health Care, Education, Environment, Special Programs etc will hurt everyone from the very young to the very old. It is time to act.
Please show Rick Nicholls that “The Power of Many” has come to our community and we are taking him on and making HIM accountable.
Please plan to be in the Value Village parking lot at 11:45 AM. We will march from their to Keil Dr and down to Nicholls office on Heritage Road.
Although this is a short rally we will send a very clear message to him. Please bring family, friends, posters, flags so we can show our community that we are supporting everyone who is affected by these cuts.
Premier Doug Ford and the and the Ministry of Health have announced plans to cut over $200 million in funding to Public Health Units across Ontario and over a billion dollars in coming years.
They have also announced a reduction in the number of health units across Ontario and a funding structure change that will see municipalities carrying a larger burden of funding public health.

Library service in Ontario is being threatened, with SOLS and OLS-North announcing they are facing cuts to their budget of 50% or more. These cuts will be particularly devastating for rural, remote and Indigenous libraries.

CUPE Local 12 has sponsored the 2019 Hike for Hospice event.
Hike for Hospice takes place on Sunday, May 5. Registration begins at 12:00 pm at John McGregor Secondary School. The 5 km Run begins at 1:00 pm and the 5 km walk begins at 2:00 pm, both along the Mud Creek Trail.
All ages and fitness levels are welcome to attend this event. The trail is accessible and pet friendly.
CUPE Local 12 members are organizing a team for this event. The cost to participate is $20/walk and $30/run. Children under 12 can participate for $10.
